WO2 Colin Hughes-Smith
Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Military Division

WO2 Colin Hughes-Smith received his OAM for meritorious service as Alpha Company Training Warrant Officer and Drum Major of the Pipes and Drums, the 5th/6th Battalion, the Royal Victoria Regiment.
Warrant Officer Class Two Hughes-Smith has made remarkable contributions to the Australian Army over three decades of meritorious service as Alpha Company Training Warrant Officer and the Drum Major for the Battalion’s Pipes and Drums. He revitalised the capability of Alpha Company during its relocation from Sunshine to Dandenong, whilst providing a lasting contribution to the Australian Defence Force’s ceremonial reputation as Drum Major of the Battalion’s Pipes and Drums.
Infantry Dinner 2025

On Saturday night 12 Apr 25 the RVRA held its annual Infantry Victoria Dinner at the RACV Club in the city. This year we had 109 attendees which was a good improvement over the prior years. This year we had invited the State Governor Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardiner AC. Honorary Colonel of the Royal Victoria Regiment, 2 Div COMD MAJGEN Matt Burr AM, MAJGEN Jason Blain DSC. AM. CSC. Head Land Systems, MAJGEN Greg Garde AO. RFD. COL COMDT Infantry in Victoria, MAJGEN Doug Laidlaw AM. CSC. Head Reserve and Cadet Support Division, BRIG Rob Marsh RFD. PSM. ADC to the Governor General, Dr Rob Webster OAM State President of the Vic RSL, and representing the State Minister for Veterans Mr John Berger MLA.
An enjoyable evening appeared to be had by all.

During the evening, diners listened to unit briefs by the Commanding Officers of both 5/6 and 8/7 RVR – LTCOL Brendan Allen and LTCOL Paul O’Donnell respectively dealing in part with their preparations for Ex Talisman Sabre 25 followed by a speech from MAJGEN Laidlaw on the recent SDR.
